When are your meetings?

 

Our chapter meets monthly except December, January, February and August. 

We meet during the last week of the month, varying the day of the week and the time of day to accommodate the demanding schedule of the busy women in today's world.

Objectives of the DAR and

Some of Our Activities to Meet those Objectives:   

  PATRIOTIC     ENDEAVOR
  •  "To cherish, maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, to foster true patriotism and love of country, and to aid in securing for mankind all the blessings of liberty."  

    • Give at least one flag each year

    • Send letters commending  appropriate display of flag

    • Distribute "Flag Code" pamphlets

    • Give books and other materials to Veteran's hospitals

    • Put up displays for Constitution Day and Constitution Week

    • Attend Veteran's Day events

    • Support our troops  with the National program  "Project Patriot"

    • Present ROTC medals to local high school students

  EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT
  •  "To promote, as an object of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of education

    •  Promote the Mary Melvina Goforth Rouse American Indian Scholarship

    • Supply articles to Hindman School in Kentucky, Crossnore School in North Carolina and to local sites in need of assistance

    •  Award students with Good Citizen medals

    •  Conduct genealogy workshops for adults and children

    • Co-sponsor workshops with Bell County Historical Museum and Library 

    •  Assist the public with individual genealogies

    • Develop and maintain a chapter web site

 

    PRESERVATION  
  HISTORIC
  •  "To perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence."

    • Plant at least one new tree during National Earth Week

    • Reproduce deteriorating documents and take steps to protect aged written material

    • Assist in the updating of local cemetery listings

    • Involvement in local Historical Societies

    • The stone monument pictured above, and honoring Daniel Boone is located at the top of the Cumberland Gap, where the three states of Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia meet. DAR of North Carolina joined those three states in the construction of the monument and participated in the re-dedication. Each side of the monument representing one of the four states.
