GENERAL INFORMATION

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution offers a number of Scholarships to  ". . . students showing dedication to the pursuit of an undergraduate degree in one of the following areas: history, political science, economics, government or nursing " The NSDAR scholarship, which is specifically for students of American Indian descent, is also available to those students pursuing vocational training. Information about DAR scholarships can be found at NSDAR Scholarships.

The Mary Melvina Goforth Rouse Scholarship was established by the family of one of the members of the Kentucky Path Chapter to honor the heritage of an ancestor. Their great grandmother, Mary Melvina Goforth Rouse was born in Claiborne County, Tennessee on July 30, 1843 and lived there her entire life. Although her exact Indian heritage has not been authenticated, her physical appearance and oral family tradition held her to have been of Cherokee descent. Her descendants respect and preserve this oral tradition.

The Kentucky Path Chapter is honored to be able to offer this scholarship to students residing in the three adjacent counties in the tri-county area of Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia

The scholarship is intended to help students who have a Native American Indian ancestry and whose home residence is in either Bell County, Claiborne County or Lee County.
